Diabetes can affect our feet two ways mainly one is because of deposition of fat and cholesterol inside the blood carrying vessels there is narrowing of blood carry vessels and it results in diminished blood supply. If there is any injury or infection to the feet it takes long time to heal, even a lay man knows in diabetics wound healing is a big problem, that’s why we say if you have diabetes if you do not see your face in the mirror we do not mind but have a look at your feet daily.

Foot problems are a major reason behind hospitalizations for diabetics. Diabetes can affect nerves in the foot and prevent you from feeling injuries. It can also cause reduced or altered blood flow, which can prevent injuries from healing. Because minor injuries can become major infections among diabetics, it is important to keep a diabetic foot healthy. Prevention is the key to avoiding foot problems in diabetic patients

Common Diabetic Foot Problems Include:

  • Foot ulcers
  • Swelling
  • Cuts and sores
  • Corns
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Deep infections
  • Charcot Fractures

Care Your Foot

  • Clean a wound routinely, don’t wander with exposed feet
  • Search for wounds and corn in the event that you have decreased aversion to the skin
  • Cut your nails with the goal that they won’t hurt your foot
  • Continuously wear socks with shoes or shoe to get total counteraction to keep away from cuts or wounds.
